Measuring comes first
The most common cause of a bad installation is a door ordered to the size the opening is supposed to be rather than the size it actually is. Buildings settle, older garages in particular are rarely square, and a door ordered off a nominal measurement turns into a problem on the day it arrives.
So we measure the opening, the headroom above it and the side room beside it before anything is ordered. If the framing needs attention we will tell you at that point, not after the old door is already off.
What the installation involves
The old door, track and hardware come out and go away with us. The new track is set and squared, the door is assembled section by section, and the springs are sized and wound to the weight of the finished door rather than to a generic chart.
That last point matters more than it sounds. An insulated door is noticeably heavier than the thin one it replaced, and a spring set that is close but not correct leaves the door out of balance from day one. An unbalanced door wears its springs early and makes the opener work harder than it should for the rest of its life.
Before we leave
The opener is fitted or re-hung and re-programmed, the travel limits are set, and the safety reverse is tested. We walk you through how the door works, what maintenance it wants and what the warranty covers, and we clean up the work area.

Do you remove the old door?
Yes. Removal and disposal of the old door, track and hardware is part of the job unless you tell us you want to keep it.
How long does it take?
A straightforward single door replacement is usually a half day to a day. Two or three doors, or an opening that needs framing repair first, will take longer. We give you a realistic timeline at quoting rather than an optimistic one.
Can you install a door I bought elsewhere?
Talk to us about it. We can often do it, but we cannot warranty a door we did not supply, and we sometimes find the door ordered is the wrong size for the actual opening.
Will my existing opener work with the new door?
Frequently yes, if it is in good condition and rated for the weight of the new door. An insulated door is heavier than the thin one it replaces, so we check the opener is up to it rather than assuming.
What happens if the opening is not square?
We find out at the measuring stage rather than on installation day. Older buildings move, and openings are often out. We allow for it in the order and in the fitting.
