Where rolling steel makes sense
A rolling steel door coils into a barrel above the opening rather than folding back along the ceiling. That single difference drives most of the reasons to choose one.
It needs almost no headroom, which matters in buildings where the ceiling is low or already occupied by services, lighting or a crane rail. It leaves the ceiling area completely clear. And a curtain of interlocking steel slats is far harder to force than a sectional door, which is why they turn up on buildings holding stock, tools or equipment.
Specifying it properly
Rolling steel is the product where specification matters most and gets skipped most.
Slat profile and gauge come from the width of the opening and the wind loading it will see. An under-specified curtain on a wide opening flexes in wind, and a curtain that flexes eventually deforms and binds in its guides. That is a failure that is expensive to fix and easy to avoid at the ordering stage.
Operation comes from size and duty. A modest door opened a few times a day is perfectly fine on a chain hoist. A wide door, or one cycling through a shift, wants a motor sized for the job.

Repairs
We repair rolling steel doors as well as fitting them, including doors we did not supply. They are a genuinely different repair discipline from sectional doors, involving curtain damage, guide alignment, barrel and spring tension and bottom bar repair, and not every contractor in the region takes them on.
