Most of what we do fits within the range a conventional overhead door covers. Megadoor sits outside it.
These are systems for openings where a sectional door or a rolling steel door is not a smaller version of the right answer, it is simply not an option. Aviation hangars are the obvious case. Heavy equipment facilities, mining operations, power generation and large industrial complexes are the others.
Why fabric rather than steel
At these dimensions, weight dominates every other consideration.
A steel door large enough to close a hangar is extraordinarily heavy. That weight has to be carried by the building structure, moved by the operating mechanism and held by everything in between, and each of those requirements escalates the cost of the whole assembly rather than just the door.
A fabric system weighs a fraction of the equivalent. The door gets simpler, the mechanism gets simpler, and the structure required to support it gets substantially cheaper. On an opening of that size the saving is not marginal.
These are engineered industrial systems specified for demanding environments. The specification still has to match the site, which is why a Megadoor project starts with the building rather than with a catalogue.
How these projects run

How large an opening are we talking about?
Larger than any conventional overhead door covers. Megadoor exists for openings where a sectional or rolling door is simply not an option, which in practice means hangars and heavy industrial buildings.
Why a fabric system rather than steel?
Weight. At the sizes involved, a steel door becomes enormously heavy, which drives the cost of the structure needed to carry it and the mechanism needed to move it. A fabric system is dramatically lighter, so the whole assembly and the building supporting it get simpler.
Is fabric durable enough for this climate?
These are industrial systems specified for demanding environments, not tarpaulins. That said, the specification does need to match the site, which is why this starts with a conversation about the building rather than a price.
