Two different products
“Window screen” covers two things that get confused, and it is worth separating them before you decide what you want.
Insect screens do the obvious job. The advantage of a roll up screen over a conventional fixed one is that it is not there when you do not need it. It coils into a slim housing above the window, so it is out of the view and out of the weather for the months it would otherwise be sitting in a frame collecting dust and slowly degrading in the sun.
Security screens are a heavier product entirely. The mesh is built to resist being cut or pushed through, and they are fitted where the glazing itself is the weak point. Ground floor windows, storefronts, and premises that sit empty overnight or seasonally.
Why they end up on our list

Fitting is the whole game
A roll up screen that jams, sags or binds in its guides is almost never a faulty product. It is a fitting problem.
The housing has to be mounted level into something solid, the side guides have to be plumb and genuinely parallel, and all of that has to work on an opening that is very often none of those things. Older buildings have moved, and window openings are rarely as square as the plans suggested.
So we measure the opening ourselves before ordering anything, and our own installers do the fitting. It is a small job where the difference between done properly and done quickly shows up within a season.

What is a roll up window screen?

Yes. On commercial premises the usual driver is security rather than insects, and screens are often specified alongside roll up shutters on the same building.
